Backside of Water

A recent controversy has broken out on Twitter. It seems Trader Sam, the longtime merchant head trader located within the Disneyland Jungle Cruise ride, has come under investigation with the FTC. Evidently FTC got word Trader Sam intended to extend his 2 for 1 sale, which violates FTC rules on running continuous sales. The long time sale is Trader Sam trading 2 of his heads for one of yours. Unnamed sources indicated that Trader Sam has been offering the sale since the ride first opened in 1955.

Sources also indicated that Trader Sam has been a subject of the FTC in the past for his trading practices. When FTC officials tried to visit Trader Sam in the past they became fascinated by the backside of water and forgot to question Trader Sam.

Strollers

Strollers suck. I’m sure your thinking, he’s crazy strollers are great. Well I beg to differ. Have you ever tracked the time you are wasting getting out the stroller, putting away the stroller, moving it out of the way? I think you’d be surprised how much time it kills from you enjoying the activity you are doing.

If you are a serial stroller purchaser, I think you should think about why you need so many strollers. Is it that you need a stroller for each situation, or are you really in denial on how bad strollers are? Are you really trying to fill a problem with a solution that just doesn’t work well? Do you really need a light stroller for going to the park, a heavy stroller for the trip to Disneyland, a medium sized one for, well I’m not quite sure why you’d need more than one.

I know what your thinking, the my kid is too heavy to carry around with all the accompanying stuff. Well first off if the kid is too heavy to carry, I’d surmise it may be time they started using their own two legs for propulsion. How about getting the kid in the habit of exercise early? Many habits we have in life we develop at a young age, why not give your kid the gift of exercise.

For all of the stuff, do you really need carry all of those supplies? I’m guessing not. Sure it’s great having an emergency snow parka in the bag for the freak snow storm while you are visiting Disneyland, but 99% of the time you aren’t going to need it. Why not shed it?

Now I’m sure there are some situations that strollers are great for, but for the most part they aren’t.

Ask Not

I’m sure if you watched the start of the Super Bowl introduction video you may have caught the famous John F. Kennedy Quote “And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country.” I’ve heard the line before, but what does it mean? It’s been over 50 years since President Kennedy presented the speech in his inaugural address on January 20, 1961.

For the first time I’ve actually read the speech in it’s entirety and I’m a little bit confused on what he meant by it. I always assumed it was about government services. In reality the speech is about tyranny, poverty, disease, and war and the future. The point of the quote is to really to challenge Americans to help end poverty, disease, and war.

Overall the speech is about the future after World War II. The world was changing at a rapid pace. Imperialism was winding down, with many countries formerly controlled by European powers being turned over to new regimes. Some regimes embraced communism and others tried democracy. Some tried doing both, causing conflicts fueled by the USSR, the United States and Europe. In the speech there was a hope that through cooperation the world could end poverty, disease and war and forge a better existence through liberty.

After 50 years can we say anything has been accomplished to meet these goals? I’m not sure if anything really has changed. We still have poverty, we still have disease and war still flourishes. The “… new world of law, where the strong are just and the weak secure and the peace preserved.” has not been achieved. Attempts at ending tyranny has ended badly since the speech. These bad experiences have tended to prevent actions to end known tyranny in the world such as the Rwandan Genocide.

Maybe someday we’ll have an end to poverty, disease and war, but I don’t think it will be in my lifetime.

The Beginning

So I started a business, now what?

  • Get office space, cheaper the better. For now at least.
  • Get business cards.
  • Talk to people, to give business cards away. Maybe they’ll be so impressed with the business cards they’ll give me a call to see what else I can do besides order business cards and find cheap office space.
  • Get a cell phone. Yes, I’m probably the most with it technology guy who doesn’t have a cell phone. I still find my relatives handing me their phones to figure out something with them. Somehow I’m supposed to have the knowledge of how to use them without owning one. Fortunately I can usually figure how to get whatever to work.
  • Send out one of those annoying mass emails to everyone in my contact lists. Certainly I get a response back, right?

That’s all I have for now. I’m sure there are some other things I’m missing.

Car Pictures – Fuses

Today we started to take a part the white car. I thought of taking PhotoFly and Fuses 457out the battery today to do something easy, but evidently they’ve hid the battery in the engine compartment and all I could find was the leads to it. Instead we took out the fuse cover and fuses.

My youngest daughter dutifully helped by holding the tools. The oldest assisted by taking pictures. She like taking pictures, she has nothing else to say about taking pictures.

The fuses were difficult to take out by hand, but the handy pliers made getting them out easier.

Does anyone want some fuses?
